Make your next escape to the year-round sun and warmth with a visit to Florida. A lot goes in to planning the perfect vacation, including how you get there, where to stay, and the things you’ll do and see to make your vacation something to remember. Adding an attraction like the Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium to your to do list packs a fun, interesting time into your trip –and may even add a little education for the students of the group, but they won’t notice! The planetarium lobby and nature center trails are open Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. -4 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. -4 p.m. at 3450 Ortiz Ave., in Fort Myers. You can call them at 239-275-3435. Adult admission is $10, children’s admission is $5, and members get in free.

Nature Speaker Series

Make learning about the wildlife and ecology of your temporary home away from home a part of your day. If you happen to be here around the second Wednesday of the month, the nature center in Fort Myers presents their Nature Speaker Series at 7 p.m. in the planetarium. The monthly series hosts experts in the fields of wildlife, conservation, and environmental. Learn about the month’s topic and listen to the speaker’s stories about their work and experience. Past presentations include the life of sea turtles and shorebirds, and more.

Regular Events at the Calusa Nature Center in Fort Myers

Plan your visit around what you’d like to do most. Enjoy daily butterfly or animal talk or planetarium shows. Wander the 105-acre site on your own, or come on Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday for a guided hike. Enjoy the butterfly house, natural history living museum, and raptor aviary while you’re here.

Full Moon Night Hike

Each full moon, the staff at Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium guide you on a walk under the full moon. Try to spy bats, listen for owls, or search for your favorite constellation. Bring a flashlight, although you likely won’t need it much. Walks start just after sunset, no matter the weather. Wear close-toed shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. The hike is appropriate for ages six and up. Adults are $15/person and pre-registration is required.

Laser Light Show

The planetarium hosts a variety of different laser light shows, perfect for all ages. The synchronized laser show joins 5.1 surround sound for an experience like no other dancing on the 44’ planetarium dome.
