Family-Friendly Activities in Cape Coral

HomeActivities & AttractionsThings To DoFamily-Friendly Activities in Cape Coral

You came to Florida and Cape Coral for plenty of warmth, fun, and the sand and water at the beach along the Gulf of Mexico. Traveling as a family, potentially with school age kids, your break may come during school breaks like winter, spring, and summer. But no matter when you come, there are also plenty of fun things to do in Cape Coral with family. Bring everyone with you and ask about pet-friendly rentals, too!

Beaches

You and the family will want to make sure to visit the beach regularly on your Cape Coral vacation. Start your day with a walk or run on the beach or spread your beach blanket and plant your umbrella for a day of relaxation. Splash around in the water for a swim, or experience something new when you go for a snorkel, stand up paddleboard, or kayak adventure. Up the adrenaline with parasailing, water skiing, or tubing, then wind up the day with a sunset walk on the beach or private catamaran cruise with wildlife spotting.

Butterfly Estates

Learn more about the local ecosystem. The Butterfly Estates in nearby Fort Myers specialize in keeping Florida’s ecosystem and all its parts clean and protected. The butterfly house is a 3,600-square-foot glass conservatory that releases butterflies weekly, year-round. You can even take a gardening class, and learn tips and tricks for your own garden, including the best plants and flowers to plant to attract butterflies.

Ford & Edison Winter Estates

The car magnet and famous inventor were friends! They even chose to spend their winter days just a stone’s throw away from one another in Southwest Florida. Wander the 20-acre property in the Fort Myers area. The Edison property features a main house, guest house, and caretaker’s house, and more, while the Ford estate features a main home and caretaker’s cottage. Get lost in the scents of the luscious gardens, or step into the Edison Botanic Research Laboratory – where Edison, Ford, and their friend tire manufacturer Harvey Firestone worked to reduce the country’s dependence on foreign rubber sources. End your tour in the 15,000-square-foot museum featuring exhibits depicting Ford’s and Edison’s lives, including a 1916 Model T.

Gator Mike’s Family Fun Park

Enjoy family fun in Cape Coral indoors or outdoors at the same location on your Southwest Florida family trip. Gator Mike’s Family Fun Park in Cape Coral includes outdoor attractions including mini golf, go-karts, a rope and zipline course, batting cages and much more. Beat the Florida heat and head inside. Visit the arcade, zombie-themed escape room, and satisfy your hunger at the snack bar or bar & grill restaurant.

Southwest Florida Museum of History

While the kids of the group may not think it’s cool, history buffs, or those who just want to take in the history and culture of the area, will want to add a stop to the itinerary. It’s located in the former Atlantic Coastline Railroad depot and boasts a number of exhibits dedicated to the state’s and region’s past. Learn about the Seminoles and other Native American tribes, turn-of-the-20th century Florida, and the many industries in the area: agriculture, boating, fishing, and even the military. Make the second Thursday of each month part of your vacation and listen to a special guest speaker with a wealth of knowledge about the area. When you arrive, everyone will marvel at the 1929 private Pullman rail car outside that greets you.

Sun Splash Family Water Park

You may head to the beach every day of your Cape Coral family retreat, or you can choose to take a refreshing dip another way. The water park is open Memorial Day to Labor Day, and limited hours the rest of the year. It’s full of water fun like a kiddie area with slides and water play structure, and many little versions of the bigger slides in the park. Float down the lazy river or pack your visit with thrills on slides like “Terror Tube,” “Thunder Bump,” and “X-Cellerator.” Everyone can test their strength and agility on the “Sand Dollar Walk” – a ropes course over water or keep the thrills going on the drop slides that drop off just before you hit the water.
